Tite Street

Situated on the historic Tite Street in Chelsea, just moments from the former home of Oscar Wilde, this project called for a kitchen that could balance strong contemporary character with spatial planning. The apartment’s open-plan layout and compact footprint meant every element of the design needed to work hard, both visually and practically.

The kitchen was handcrafted using Mandmade furniture, finished in a rich smoked oak veneer. Antique brass detailing adds a subtle warmth to the darker palette, creating contrast while maintaining a refined, modern feel. The cabinetry is paired with a Dekton Somnia worktop, chosen for its durability, which complements the depth of the timber tones.

One of the main challenges of the space was accommodating a significant number of appliances within a relatively compact kitchen. Alongside the Siemens appliances, the design also needed to discreetly house a boiler without compromising the overall aesthetic. Careful internal planning allowed these elements to be integrated seamlessly within the cabinetry.

The kitchen also sits neatly beneath a mezzanine level, which influenced both the proportions and layout of the cabinetry. To prevent the darker material palette from feeling heavy, the right lighting was essential. Subtle spotlighting has been integrated throughout the space, bringing balance and highlighting the texture of the smoked oak veneer and brass accents.

The overall colour scheme centres around deep blacks and dark browns, creating a sophisticated and contemporary atmosphere. Within the open-plan setting, the kitchen forms a confident focal point, combining rich materials with practical design to deliver a space that feels both striking and effortless to live with.
